Those close to me know that personal development is a significant component of my life and am continually looking for ways to improve in various areas of my life. I love to set big audacious goals, embrace challenges (regardless of how uncomfortable they are), and see where life takes me.
I have to admit that I wasn’t always like this, and up until the last five years, I didn’t take much responsibility in the direction of my life. Then one day, I decided to change things up and committed myself to start working out (no this isn’t a post about health - promise), and doing so has changed my perspective about myself and what I am capable of. From making this one commitment, I learned that I could overcome the difficult, arduous task of working out and started to see that what was difficult started to become hard, and what was hard became easier.
Committing myself to something (working out), gave me the confidence and self-esteem to venture off in other areas of my life and am still continually making progress on my journey. Doing so has brought several thought-provoking personal development leaders into my life who have helped me tremendously on my journey and wanted to share those with you.
Tony Robbins
Tony Robbins was the first person that I had stumbled upon over five years ago and was the catalyst for my love of personal development. Tony is a household name when it comes to the personal development industry and has been around for decades. Tony hosts countless seminars, is an author of several books and audio recordings, has a video on Netflix called I Am Not Your Guru, has several coaching programs, hosts retreats, and offers other great content and resources.
When I first came across Tony, I streamed countless hours of his videos on YouTube, even in the background while working. His content was the catalyst of taking a deep dive into my limiting beliefs and correcting the direction of my life by putting my hands back on the wheel, rather than driving on auto-pilot.
I appreciate his books, as there are countless exercises for you to do on your own to unmask your own limiting beliefs, allowing you to understand yourself better. They are also a fantastic resource in better understanding human psychology, which I love!
Jim Rohn
Having been in the industry for more than 40 years, Jim Rohn is still highly regarded as one of the top influential thinkers of our time. While he may no longer be with us, his wisdom and teachings will always have a lasting impact on countless lives and will continue to do so for years to come.
Jim has been a mentor of mine for countless years and regularly refer back to his audio content. To me, his advice, strategies, and the overall message is timeless and believe that he was truly wise beyond his years. Similar to Tony, I spent countless hours streaming his content as I could not get enough. Jim's teachings have always resonated with me and have a way of striking a chord in a way that makes sense.
There are countless audio and video programs, as well as books that Jim had authored that you can easily find online or in stores. If you prefer audio or video, you will find that Jim talks in a way that is so personable that it feels as though you are in the room with him having a conversation. He communicates his message with great care, conviction, and humour, and I love his straightforward and no-nonsense approach.
Darren Hardy
Darren has had quite the success throughout his lifetime and is the maestro of productivity and helping high achievers make their impact on the world, all the while creating a positive ripple effect.
I will be honest and say that Darren continues to be one of my go tos for motivation and support. Darren provides live seminars and workshops, digital training curriculums, and daily video mentoring (his Darren Daily, which I watch daily), amongst other great information and resources. He is the author of several books such as the popular book The Compound Effect, which I own both the book and audio version (that’s how good it is).
To add more to his esteem, his online curriculum Insane Productivity is a total game-changer and cannot recommend it enough. Darren truly is a positive role model and always communicates his message in a positive way that cuts through the BS and could not recommend his work enough.
Cathy Heller
Cathy Heller is the host of the popular podcast Don’t Keep Your Day Job, and is also an author and business and life coach.
I stumbled upon Cathy’s podcast over two years ago, where she hosts weekly thought-provoking interviews with creative entrepreneurs that offer practical approaches to make a living doing what you love. Since the overwhelming success of her podcast, she has created such a welcoming community online through her Facebook group: Don't Keep Your Day Job Community With Cathy Heller, and hosts live and digital events and offers group courses. Further, Cathy has also been successful as a songwriter, licensing her music to the film industry and advertising.
To me, Cathy is as pure as they come and has only the best of intentions with the content that she puts out to the world. She truly believes that anything is possible if you are willing to put in some elbow grease in pursuing the thing that you love, which is what she does for me. She is authentic, open, honest, and could not recommend her more.
Chalene Johnson
Chalene Johnson is a personal trainer and BeachBody coach who has 30 years of expertise in the health and fitness industry and is also a world-renowned motivational speaker.
I have known about Chalene Johnson for a long time, as I am a big fan of Beachbody and their workout programs, but for me, she was a catalyst five years ago when I was exploring my business Thrive Naturally with her book Push. Since then, Chalene has published another book, hosts two podcasts The Chalene Show and Build Your Tribe, offers digital training curriculums, amongst other useful resources.
Chalene is as honest as they come. If you are listening to her podcast, you feel as though you are talking to your best friend: she is down to earth, open, honest, a wealth of information, and is someone who is always learning and sharing new health and fitness data with her audience.
